Liberia: Justice Ministry and Police at Odds over Charges in Murder of Cllr. Scott’s Niece

The ongoing investigation into the murder of Charloe Musu, the daughter of former Chief Justice Glorious Musu Scott, has led to a dispute between the Liberia National Police and the Ministry of Justice. While the police want to charge Cllr. Scott with murder, Justice Minister Frank Musa Dean is calling for a lesser charge of manslaughter or negligent homicide.

Sources within the LNP have hinted at mounting tension between the two agencies, leading to delays in the release of an official report. This has caused concern among the public, with many wonderings why the police are delaying the release of charges against the perpetrator of the alleged murder.

Cllr. Scott and her family have expressed their reservations about the police preliminary report, which indicates no evidence of a break-in. The former Chief Justice maintains that the government was made aware of the attacks on multiple occasions, suggesting that the police knew the facts even before conducting the investigation.

The delay in releasing charges against the perpetrator of this heinous crime has raised questions about the effectiveness of the country’s justice system. It remains to be seen how this dispute between the police and the Ministry of Justice will be resolved, and whether justice will be served for the late Charloe Musu and her family.
